Are you a skilled aviator with exceptional leadership qualities? Backcountry Aviation, a Part 135 airline operating in the Pacific Northwest, is seeking a talented and dedicated Chief Pilot to join our growing team. As Chief Pilot, you will be instrumental in guiding our flight operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, and leading our team of skilled pilots.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Chief Pilot will be responsible for supervising flight operations personnel in compliance with FARs and ensuring that all pilots are trained, qualified, and proficient for Parts 91 and 135 operations. This position has both tactical and strategic elements; seeking solutions to short-term operational issues and planning long-term solutions to support Backcountry’s strategic vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Flight Operations and Operational Control:
    • Oversee and manage flight operations, ensuring compliance with all FAA and company regulations and safety standards.
    • Authorized by the Director of Operations to exercise Operational Control.
    • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to streamline flight schedules and maintain aircraft airworthiness.
    • Responsible for the assignment and scheduling of all pilots.
    • Serve as PIC as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
  • Management and Training:
    • Supports the Director of Operations with employee management, including interviewing, hiring and counseling pilots and operations staff.
    • Directs all pilot training activities and compliance programs.
    • Supports the Director of Operations with preparing and maintaining pilot and operational records in accordance with Part 135 and DOT requirements.
    • Ensures accurate and consistent communication with pilots.
    • Prepare and distribute applicable crew member instructions, bulletins, and manual information.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Promotes safety in all areas of the operation and ensures implementation of safety programs and management.
    • Has the authority and is accountable for all training and manual revisions.
    • Represent Backcountry Aviation in regulatory meetings and audits.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must satisfy the applicable management qualifications of 14 CFR 119.69 and Chief Pilot experience requirements of 14 CFR 119.71(c).
  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Cessna 402C and/or T303 type ratings.
  • Minimum of 1,500 flight hours, with at least 500 hours of multi-engine (AMEL) PIC time.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a Part 135 airline is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, team-building and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and handle administrative, operational and flight duties as needed.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Company Manuals, Operations Specifications, FAA and DOT regulations and aviation safety standards.
  • Must pass DOT drug and alcohol test and hold a valid FAA First Class Medical.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations, including attending meetings or events as a representative of Backcountry Aviation.

Aircraft Mechanic

We're currently seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic to join our team. As an Aircraft Mechanic, you will be responsible for visually inspecting and testing aircraft equipment, troubleshooting and repairing system malfunctions, and maintaining aircraft structure. You will also provide maintenance coverage at Line Stations and conduct maintenance inspections to ensure the airworthiness of the aircraft.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visually inspects and tests aircraft equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, detects malfunctions, communicates information to Maintenance Control and other maintenance personnel as needed to diagnose and/or repair system malfunctions.
  • Communicates regularly with Maintenance Control, indicating aircraft status and condition.
  • Provides maintenance coverage at the Line Stations or traveling with the aircraft as a “Flight Mechanic”.
  • Ensures Flight Log Pages are e-faxed after each departure.
  • Repairs and maintains aircraft structure. On time departure of aircraft while maintaining safety in work area .
  • Participates in the RII (Routine Inspection Items) Program.
  • Conducts briefings with the inbound Flight Deck Crew ensuring a clear understanding of all maintenance write-ups that are to be addressed at the turnaround or layover.
  • Conducts maintenance post/ preflight inspections (walk around) to ensure problems or malfunctions are found prior to Flight Crew arrival.
  • Performance of Interior Cabin Inspection.
  • Repairs and Maintains interior cabin systems and components as required.
  • Follows maintenance reference to ensure airworthy of aircraft.
  • Communicates with outside sources at a variety of stations for servicing, equipment and assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Maintenance.

Job Requirements:

  • Associates degree or technical training with a minimum of 2-4 years’ experience on Cessna 402’s, with a minimum of 3-5 years total aircraft maintenance experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and experience).
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups of customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Cessna Twin Engine aircraft experience Preferred.
  • Avionics Experience Preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Previous experience working with Computerized Maintenance Tracking Programs such as CAMP, MyCMP, Flightdocs, Corridor, or similar preferred.

Education or Formal Training:

  • A&P Certificate (Required)
  • Inspection Authorization Rating or the ability to obtain an IA. (Preferred)

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 7 + years of Aviation experience
  • Proficient in troubleshooting systems, inspecting airframe and engines, performing alterations, and replacing parts and components.
  • Proficient in understanding Manufacturers Maintenance Manuals and drawings.
  • Valid FAA A&P certification with 7 years of commercial line maintenance experience
  • Valid Driver License
  • Provide Training documents if available
  • Positive attitude towards productivity, safety, and quality maintenance
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and radio)
  • Must have great customer skills
  • Must have own set of tools
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and show evidence.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 15% of time.
